It seems like every way I turn someone is coming out with awesome news. All I could think in my mind the other night was, it’s happening. I have finally crossed over the threshold where I’m watching everyone else receive theirs. Theirs represents those blessings and gifts that I would one day like to have in my own life. I mean there have been engagement announcements, pregnancy announcements, you name it. I was almost to the point of tears in frustration the other night where I paused and remembered a blog written by Heather Lindsey on contentment. It was at that very moment that I decided to tell God, “Thank you!”

I was getting ready to allow myself to slump into a pity party because of all of what I did not have in that exact moment. Wondering when is all of this going to happen for me? But, I’m so glad that the Holy Spirit reminded me of what I do have. I am currently single, yes, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I just moved back to Germany a few months ago after living in the states for 7 years. I am currently in transition mode and trying to get settled and waiting on God to work some things out on my behalf, but there hasn’t been one day that I’ve been without. I am able to spend my days working with children, which is my passion. Who am I to complain?

I just wanted to share this testimony because there will always be a time when you start to question God about your portion. At that moment, stop yourself. Repent and begin to thank Him for what He has already done for you. Focus on the task that He has already set before you.

As I was repenting and going before Him in prayer He led me to the word. First, He took me to 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (NLT). So even where I am currently, in this phase of transition, I am still required to be thankful. Then, I found encouragement in Ephesians 5:20, “And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (NLT). What really had me change my mindset was the footnote: "When you feel down, you may find it difficult to give thanks. Take heart-in all things God works for our good if we love him and are called by him (Romans 8:28). Thank God, not for your problems but for the strength he is building in you through the difficult experiences of your life. You can be sure that God’s perfect love will see you through” (Life Application Study Bible, NLT).

I ended the night with a sense of peace. After having repented for being ungrateful and doubting God’s word. I trust that He will withhold no good thing from me (Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right” NLT), so I have chosen to be grateful for the things that I do have. I am grateful that He has chosen to use me to spread His Good News. I am grateful that even though I had the mind to compare myself to others, that His Holy Spirit spoke to me and reminded me of how much He loved and cared for me! Now, that ought to make you reevaluate some things. Don’t allow yourself to get caught up in comparing yourself to others, but be grateful for what you have and the plan and path that God has for you.

Is it possible that somethings are just too good to be true or should we always expect great things from God?
